The State Emblem
The State Emblem is an emblem of the state, city, estate or origin which is painted on flags, coins, presses, state and other official documents.
The two-head eagle appeared as the state emblem in Russia in 1472 by rights of throne-heritage by the way of the marriage of Ivan Vasilevich III and Sofiya Paleolog - niece of the last Byzantine emperator. In the time of Peter I the state emblem was enlarged with an image of chain with the order of holy Andrey Pervozvanniy around the shield on eagle's chest. The coloration of the emblem was changed too. The eagle became black and the background became yellow. There was a shield with the picture of a rider (the older Moskow emblem) on the eagle's chest. Since 1730 the rider has been called Holy Georgy Pobedonosec which affect a dragon. It is a symbol of the fight of the good and the evil. Also the symbol points us that the Moskow is a heart of Russia.
The type of the emblem with a golden two-head eagle on red background with three crowns, scepter and orb finally consolidated in XVII century. Scepter first is an arm, the symbol of defencing a sovereignty. An orb (in the form of sphere) is the symbol of unity and integrity of the state. Red (magenta) color was a color of emperator, the king's color. An dgolden color is the symbol of eternity.
After revolution in February 1917 the temporary goverment came back to the state emblem of the time of Ivan III.
The emblem of RSFSR was first described in the constitution of RSFSR of 1918 year. The emblem of red army (red pentagonal star with a plow and a hammer in the center) became as a prototype. In the June 1920 Gozznak prepared a sample in the form the emblem reached 1993 year with several chages. The emblem consisted in an image of golden sickle and hammer on the red background in golden rays of the sun framing with golden colossuses. The inscriptions "RSFSR" and "Proletarians of all countries unite!" were reproduced by black chars on red background.
The president of the Russian Federation signed an order giving a description of a new emblem in November 30, 1993. The state emblem of the Russian Federation is an image of golden two-head eagle placed on red heraldic shield. There are three historical crowns of Pavel the Great above the eagle (two little ones above the heads and the big one over they). There are a scipter and orb in the eagle's pas. And the rider affected a dragon with a spear on a red shield placed on the eagle's chest.
The two-head eagle has been beautifying interirors of centers of goverment such as Kremlin, buildings on Ohotniy row, the ones on Krasnopresnenskaya quay and Big Dmitrovka not long ago. The state emblem replaced the clock on the tower of the House of Russia Goverment in October 20, 1994.
The legislation "About the state emblem of the Russian Federation" says that the state emblem of the Russian Federation is a quadrangular sharpened in extremity heraldic shield with rounded lower angles and the golden two-head eagle rised up its loose wings. The eagle was crowned with two little and one big crown connected with a band. There is a scepter in the right eagle's pa and an orb in the left one. There is a silver rider in a blue cloak going to left on a silver horse affecting a black dragon by a silver spear on the eagle's chest placed on the red shield. The dragon is overturned up and trampled by the horse which is also directed to left. The document notices that the state emblem should be placed on stamps of federal institutes of the goverment and other state institutes and organizations. An image of the state emblem is always placed on fronts of buidings of the goverment, diplomatic representatives, consular institutes and other official representatives of Russia abroad. it's also in the work-room of the president of the Russian Federation and other places were defined by the legislation. And also on frontier signs, on the standard (the flag of the president), battle banners of military units, banners of federal institutes of the executable power were defined by the president and on military ships of first and second rank. Apart, the state emblem may be placed on bills, state awards and documents for they, signs of distinction for finishing of hight-educational state institutes for professional education. It's also possible to place the state emblem on signs of destinction and uniform were set for persons occupy on state service and using it as a heraldic base for other heraldical emblems like emblems of federal institutes of the goverment.
